Part Time Finance Director

Description

Astec Precision is a specialist sub-contract manufacturer of small turned components and has a blue-chip customer base in the interconnect, aerospace and oil and gas sectors.  Astec has built a strong reputation for complex components and particularly their capability in parts below 5mm diameter.

The business is growing and now employs 50 people, is moving to new 30,000 sq ft facilities and is looking to continually improve and develop.  To help facilitate this, the business is looking to strengthen its senior management team with the appointment of a part-time Finance Director.

Role & Responsibilities

It is envisaged that this role will be in the region of four days per month. Working with the Office and Finance Manager you will have responsibility for:

  • Leadership of the finance team (2) to optimise the company’s financial performance
  • Mentoring and development of the Office & Finance Manager
  • Oversight and continual improvement of the company’s finance function ensuring systems are robust and support future growth
  • Ensuring that the Directors are provided with regular and timeous financial information including flash figures, consolidated management accounts and KPIs to support the Managing Director and wider team in running the business
  • Accurate stock and WIP reporting including reconciliation with company ERP system
  • Management of working capital and cash
  • Analysis of profitability by machine, part and against plan
  • Reviewing and updating the budget and projections
  • Attending Board Meetings and formulating strategies and plans
  • Annual statutory audit
  • Ad-hoc support to the Managing Director and wider team as required

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be:

  • A fully qualified chartered accountant
  • Experienced in manufacturing companies
  • Commercially astute, articulate, insightful and influential leader
  • Able to operate at both strategic and operational levels working across the business
  • An energetic, motivated professional with an enquiring mind who is keen to understand the business and how management information can provide guidance as to how it is continually improved and developed
  • Experienced in developing people
  • Comfortable with IT systems and how these can be utilised to simplify the production of useful and timely management information
